    What is a meditative space?

A meditative space is an area that has been designed for contemplation, reflection and mindfulness. Creating a regular meditative space helps you to create boundaries between the 'doing' and 'being' aspects of your life, which allows you to find balance and peace amidst the chaos.

The key to creating a successful meditation space is to make it a place that is comfortable, peaceful, and conducive to relaxation. Don't worry about making it perfect – the most important thing is that it feels right for you and serves as an anchor in your self-care practices.

What does a meditation space need?

Creating the perfect meditation space in your home is an important task. Your sanctuary should be a place of peace and relaxation, where you can take a few moments to calm your mind and truly relax.

It doesn't have to be expensive or complicated – all it takes is some thoughtful planning and attention to detail. With the right elements, you can create a beautiful, restful retreat within the comfort of your own home that will help support your practice of mindfulness.

Below are the meditation room essentials you should consider when making your own space.

    Choose a location

Select a quiet, peaceful spot in your home that is free from distractions.  This may be a corner of your bedroom or a spot in your living room that is away from any noise sources. Once you have found a suitable location, clear the area of any clutter.

    Make it comfortable

Next, you will need to choose comfortable furniture for your meditation space. A cozy chair or cushion is essential for proper meditation posture. You may also want to consider adding a small table or shelf to hold any items you may need during your practice, such as a water bottle or essential oils.

    Set the mood

Once you have chosen furniture for your space, you can begin to add calming decor. Consider adding items that bring you joy or make you feel peaceful. This might include flowers, crystals, candles, a piece of art or a small figurine. You may also wish to add incense or essential oils to enhance the atmosphere.

    Create an altar

An altar is a common element in many meditation spaces. An altar can be as simple as a shelf with a few personal items on it, or it can be more elaborate with multiple levels and decorations. Altars typically include items that represent the four elements: earth, air, fire, and water. They may also include items that represent your intentions for your practice, such as peace, love, or compassion.

What are the benefits of meditation?

For many people, the benefits of meditation are life-changing. With regular practice, meditation can help to create a sense of calm and well-being that extends far beyond the time spent in the practice. Here are some specific benefits:

    • Reducing stress: helps reduce stress and anxiety by calming the mind and allowing you to focus on the present moment.
    • Improving mental clarity: improves focus and concentration, which can lead to better decision making and problem solving skills.
    • Promoting emotional well-being: may improve your emotional well-being by increasing positive emotions and reducing negative ones.
    • Enhancing self-awareness: helps you become more aware of your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
    • Improving physical health: research suggests that it may have a number of physical health benefits, including lowering blood pressure, reducing pain and improving sleep quality.
